24 militants, 2 policemen killed in Afghan violence

JALALABAD -- At least 24 militants, two police officers and a civilian were killed in fighting in three Afghan provinces, media reported.

Troops August 10 killed at least 21 "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) militants in Achin District, Nangarhar Province, Ataullah Khogyani, the provincial governor's spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Three militants, including a Taliban commander, were killed in a joint operation in Hazrat Sultan District, Samangan Province, August 9, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said in a statement August 10, according to the Afghanistan Times.

Separately, an August 10 roadside bomb in Alisheng District, Laghman Province, killed at least two police officers and a civilian, local officials told Khaama Press.
