Death toll from Nangarhar ISIS-Taliban battle rises to 17

NANGARHAR -- Fighting between the Taliban and the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) in Pacheragam District, Nangarhar Province, has taken 17 lives so far, Khaama Press reported Thursday (June 8).

Khaama Press reported the total as nine dead Wednesday (June 7): seven militants and two civilians. It had risen to 17 dead -- 15 militants and two civilians one day later, Khaama Press reported.

The 15 dead militants include three Taliban and 12 ISIS members, said the provincial government.

Hundreds of families have fled the fighting.

Nangarhar Governor Mohammad Gulab Mangal visited the affected families and promised to eliminate the militants soon.
