Special forces kill al-Qaeda leader in Helmand

HELMAND -- Afghan special forces killed a senior leader of al-Qaeda in Helmand Province, Khaama Press reported Tuesday (August 7), citing security officials.

Abdul Rahim Al-Mesri was killed in Garmsir District, Special Forces spokesman Ahmad Jawid Salim confirmed without disclosing the date of the operation.

Troops killed six other militants in the same operation, he said, adding that they confiscated weapons and other militant equipment.
