FARYAB -- Afghan security thwarted a Taliban militant plan to attack the compound of Afghan Vice President General Abdul Rashid Dostum in Ghormach District of Faryab the night of October 22, Khaama Press reported.
The Taliban were planning to launch an attack near Dostum's compound but security forces preempted and targeted them before they could attack, the Office of the First Vice President said in a statement.
The rebel group left the area after suffering casualties in the gun battle, the statement added, without giving an exact number of Taliban casualties.
Meanwhile, National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives detained 21 suspects of seven kidnapping gangs, allegedly involved in major kidnappings in capital Kabul in the past six months, Khaama Press reported October 23.
