JAWZJAN, Afghanistan -- Operation Zafar-6, which the Afghan National Army (ANA) began conducting June 23, is inflicting heavy losses on the Afghan Taliban in Jawzjan Province, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL)'s Turkmen service reported recently, quoting Jawzjan governor's spokesman Mohammad Reza Ghafoori.

The Taliban are suffering particularly heavy casualties near Astanababa and Dashtileili, areas along the Turkmen border, Ghafoori said.

"A hundred and fifteen militants ... surrendered to government troops," he said.

Operation Zafar-6 is occurring in Faryab, Jawzjan and Sar-e-Pul provinces.
