22 militants, 7 security men killed in Afghanistan

KABUL -- At least 22 militants and 7 security personnel were killed in various incidents across Afghanistan.

Troops killed at least 21 militants, including a Taliban shadow judge, in a 24-hour span in various provinces, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said in a July 13 statement, according to the Afghanistan Times.

Four troops were killed, the MoD added.

National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives recently detained four Taliban, including a Tajik national, in Kof District, Badakhshan Province, the NDS said in a July 14 statement, according to TOLO News.

Another Tajik jumped into a river and drowned, the NDS said, according to Khaama Press.

Meanwhile, the NDS recently apprehended two Tajiks in Bati Kot District, Nangarhar Province, who were en route to join the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), the NDS said separately, Khaama Press reported July 13.

Meanwhile, militants in Jawin District, Farah Province, July 12 killed three police officers who were guarding a road construction project, local officials said July 13, according to Pajhwok Afghan News.

The Counter Narcotics Police in the past week arrested nine suspected drug smugglers in Kabul, Herat and Baghlan provinces, the Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) said in a July 13 statement, according to Afghanistan Times.

The drug police seized about 568kg of opium and various quantities of drug precursors and weapons, the CJTF said.
