KABUL -- The number of security incidents in Afghanistan fell by 12% during the first half of 2016, compared to the same period in 2015, but military and police casualties rose by 15%, TOLO News reported July 17, citing its own bi-annual report on violence.
Casualties in the army rose by 37%, while police casualties declined by 30%.
About 7,000 militants and 1,700 security personnel were killed in the first half of 2016, according to the report.
The 4,209 security incidents in the first half of 2016 represented a 12% decline from the same time last year.
