26 Afghan militants, 15 troops killed

KABUL -- At least 26 militants, 15 Afghan troops and a child were killed in recent fighting and other violence in Kunduz and Jawzjan provinces, officials said.

Troops killed at least 26 Taliban, including two commanders, in a recent joint operation in Aliabad District, Kunduz Province, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said in a statement August 22, according to the Afghanistan Times.

Meanwhile, at least 15 soldiers were killed in a 24-hour span nationwide, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said, Khaama Press reported August 22.

At least 20 Afghan Local Police (ALP) officers were killed or wounded in fighting with the Taliban in Zar Kharid, 7km from Kunduz city, August 21-22, ALP Commander Sheikh Zahid told Pajhwok Afghan News August 22. The breakdown of dead and wounded was not given.

In other news, an improvised explosive device (IED) August 21 in Qush Tepa District, Jawzjan Province, killed a child and wounded three other children, provincial police chief Rahmatullah Turkistani confirmed, according to Khaama Press. The children were playing around an IED that exploded.
