ALP commander killed; 2 foreign professors kidnapped in Kabul

KABUL -- At least two people, including a commander of the Afghan Local Police (ALP), were killed recently in Afghanistan, while unknown culprits kidnapped two foreign professors in Kabul. Meanwhile, 35 militants surrendered in Jawzjan Province.

A bomb planted in an army vehicle exploded in Bagrami District, Kabul Province, August 8, killing one person, district police chief Mohammad Ayoub confirmed to Khaama Press.

An ALP commander was killed in fighting with the Taliban in Mehtarlam, Laghman Province, August 6, provincial governor's spokesman Sarhadi Zwak said, according to Khaama Press.

Unknown culprits August 7 in Kabul kidnapped two foreign professors working in the capital, TOLO News reported.

Meanwhile, about 35 insurgents August 7 in Jawzjan Province surrendered and joined the peace process, a provincial official said, according to the Afghanistan Times.

The ex-militants will receive plots of land and other assets enabling them to earn a living, Jawzjan Governor Maulvi Lutfullah Aziz said.
