34 militants, 5 soldiers killed in Afghan operations

KABUL -- At least 34 militants and five Afghan soldiers were killed in separate attacks and security operations in Afghanistan.

A Taliban attack on a military outpost in the Kekhi Kotal area of Kandahar province killed at least five Afghan soldiers and wounded two others September 19, governor's spokesman Samim Khpalwak said according to TOLO News.

Taliban assailants also suffered casualties in the clash, Khpalwak said, adding that five Taliban militants were killed during a separate security operation in Khan Shin District of the province September 19.

Meanwhile, Afghan security forces killed at least 29 fighters of the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) during separate air strikes in Haska Mina, Kot and Achin districts of Nangarhar province, the provincial police commandment said in a statement, Khaama Press reported September 20.
