56 ISIL militants killed in Achin

JALALABAD -- Afghan National Defence Security Forces and coalition troops October 3 killed at least 56 fighters of "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), including foreign insurgents, during operations in Achin District, Nangarhar Province, officials said October 4, media reported.

The troops targeted ISIL hide-outs in the Pekha area, Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal, Nangarhar police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The dead militants included several foreigners, according to a statement by the provincial police command, Khaama Press reported October 4, adding that troops recovered some weapons and ammunition.
