58 Afghan militants, 8 security personnel killed

KABUL – At least 58 militants and 8 security personnel were killed in recent fighting across Afghanistan.

Troops killed at least 47 militants throughout the country in a 24-hour span, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said September 5, according to the Afghanistan Times.

Six Afghan troops were killed, the MoD said.

The dead militants included 13 members of the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) who were killed by an Afghan air force strike in Achin District, Nangarhar Province, TOLO News reported.

Eleven foreign fighters were killed in a September 3 air strike in Speera District, Khost Province, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said September 4, according to Khaama Press.

Militants September 5 in Padkhab District, Logar Province, dumped the bodies of two police officers whom they had abducted one day earlier in Pul-i-Alam, provincial police official Col. Muhammad Jan Abid told Pajhwok Afghan News September 5.

Kabul police recently detained four suspected would-be suicide bombers, Kabul Police Chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi said September 4, according to TOLO News.
