Afghanistan violence kills 43 militants, 5 policemen, 4 civilians

KABUL -- At least 43 militants, five policemen and four civilians were killed in separate incidents of violence and operations across Afghanistan.

A roadside blast in Kajaki District of Helmand province killed four civilians -- three women and a child -- October 20, the provincial governor's office said in a statement, according to TOLO News.

Separately, a Taliban bomb-making factory was destroyed in Nad-e-Ali District of Helmand province, an official in the 215th Maiwand Corps of the Afghan National Army (ANA) forces said, Khaama Press reported October 20, adding that at least 15 suspected Taliban insurgents were also arrested during the operation.

Security forces killed at least 26 militants during operations in Qarabagh and Andar districts of Ghazni province, the 203rd Thunder Military Corps said in a statement, TOLO News reported October 20.

At least 17 more insurgents were killed during a security action in Darzab district of Jawzjan province, Mohammad Reza Ghafoori, the governor's spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News October 20.

The militants were planning to attack police check-points in Sardara village, but forces possessing advance intelligence pre-empted and killed them on the spot, Ghafoori said.

Elsewhere in Khwaja Sabz Posh District of Faryab province, Taliban militants attacked a police check-post and killed five policemen late October 19, district chief Abdullah Masoomi confirmed.
