Dozens of militants, 10 security men killed in Afghan operations

KABUL -- A number of militants and 10 Afghan security personnel were killed during countrywide counter insurgency operations in Afghanistan.

Afghan security forces killed at least 93 militants and detained seven others during operations in past 24 hours across the country, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said October 23, Afghanistan Times reported.

Eight soldiers also lost their lives during clashes with militants, the MoD added.

At least 14 Taliban were killed and wounded, two policemen were killed and as many sustained injuries during a clash that erupted after militants' attack on a police check point in Nurgal District of Kunar Province October 22, the governor's spokesman Abdul Ghani Mosamim confirmed, TOLO News reported.

Security forces also killed nine fighters of "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) during air and ground operations in Pacheragam District of Nangarhar Province, the MoD said, Khaama Press reported October 24.

The Nangarhar officials claimed October 22 to have killed at least 54 ISIL militants during the clashes in Pacheragam District, according to Afghanistan Times.

Four civilians were also killed as ISIL militants torched the houses of the public uprising forces in the area, governor's spokesman Ataullah Khogyani said.

Elsewhere in Kunduz Province, at least 13 Taliban were killed during separate operations in the province, according to an MoD statement.

At least 56 more insurgents were killed during security offensives in Jawzjan and Farah provinces, officials said, according to Pajhwok Afghan News Afghan October 23.
