Afghan security forces kill 70 militants

KABUL -- At least 70 militants and nine Afghan soldiers were killed in recent fighting across Afghanistan, media reported.

Afghan troops killed at least 70 militants in a 24-hour span nationwide, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said October 30, according to the Afghanistan Times.

Nine troops were killed in the fighting, the MoD added.

Nine other insurgents were killed in a recent government offensive in Janikhel District, Paktia Province, the 203rd Tandar Military Corps said in an October 30 statement, according to TOLO News. Those nine might have been part of the 70 militants whom the MoD reported dead.

Meanwhile, security forces recently seized a Taliban weapon depot in Nahr-e-Saraj District, Helmand Province, which contained a major cache of explosives, arms and munitions, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said October 30, according to Khaama Press.
