KABUL -- Islam is the religion of peace and tolerance, and because terrorists have no understanding of it, they misinterpret the faith, Afghan clerics said at a Kabul seminar Thursday (January 5), TOLO News reported.
The seminar brought together members of political parties, parliamentarians and former Taliban officials. The Harakat-e-Inqilab-e-Islami Afghanistan party organised the seminar.
Militants tarnish the image of Islam and of Muslims, the participants agreed, urging the Taliban to join the peace process.
"The country is bathed in blood," religious scholar Samiullah Raihan. "We need peace now."
The "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) "doesn't know about the religion", MP Mirwais Yasini said.
