Helmand violence kills 22 Taliban

HELMAND, Afghanistan -- At least 22 Taliban militants were killed during fighting and by a roadside bomb in Helmand Province, Khaama Press reported Tuesday (January 31).

The Taliban stormed security posts in Sangin District late Monday (January 30), but troops repulsed them, killing 19 attackers, the provincial government said in a statement.

Three other Taliban were killed in the Kajaki area Monday when their vehicle hit an improvised explosive device (IED), officials said.

The three militants killed included two commanders, officials said.
