Prime suspect in stoning of teenage girl surrenders in Ghor

KABUL -- The prime suspect in a stoning to death of a 19-year-old woman in 2015 in Ghor province surrendered to authorities, officials confirmed Monday (February 13), according to TOLO news.

Mulvi Saeedyar, a Taliban commander, handed himself over to security forces, Ghor Governor Ghulam Naser Khaze said.

Saeedyar was hospitalised after being taken into custody, Khaze said, adding that he would be referred to the judiciary as soon as his health condition improved.

The woman was stoned to death in November 2015 for eloping with a man who was also lashed by the militants for the 'crime'.
