Helmand, Nangarhar violence kills 4

KABUL -- Violence in Helmand and Nangarhar provinces left four Afghans dead, media reported.

A roadside bomb on the outskirts of Lashkargah, Helmand Province, killed two prisoners whom police were transferring to Kandahar Province, Khaama Press reported Tuesday (February 28), quoting local government officials.

Three police officers were injured in the blast.

A bomb-rigged rickshaw exploded Tuesday (February 28) in Behsud District, Nangarhar Province, injuring at least eight Afghans, including two children, provincial governor's spokesman Ataullah Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The local police commander for Goshta District was the apparent target, said tribal elder Malak Jan. Four police officers including the commander were hurt.

Meanwhile, gunmen Tuesday (February 28) gunned down two tribal elders in Jalalabad, Nangarhar Province, Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News.
