KABUL -- Prisons in Nangarhar and Kunar provinces have released 29 inmates whom President Ashraf Ghani ordered freed, Afghanistan Times reported Wednesday (March 8).
Ghani issued his clemency decree on Eid Milad-un-Nabi (the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad [peace be unto him]) three months ago, said Mir Hazrat Stanikzai, superintendent of one of the prisons.
The ex-convicts' crimes were not reported, nor the reason for holding them three additional months.
