KABUL -- Afghan troops killed the mastermind of a July suicide bombing in Kabul, a commander of the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), in Nangarhar Province, officials said.
Troops carrying out a joint operation killed Abdul Qaiom in Achin District, Nangarhar Province, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said Saturday (March 11), according to Afghanistan Times.
Qaiom, also known by two other names, masterminded a July 23 bombing in Kabul that killed at least 84 Afghans, according to the NDS.
Meanwhile, five Taliban militants were killed by their own explosives in Chora District, Uruzgan Province, while they were planting a bomb, the Ministry of Defence said, according to a Sunday (March 12) Khaama Press report.
