ISIL kidnaps 8 Nangarhar farmers

Staff Report

JALALABAD -- The "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) reportedly abducted eight farmers in Haska Mina District, Nangarhar Province, the Afghanistan Times reported Sunday (April 2).

ISIL seized the farmers Saturday (April 1) and likely took them to a mountainous area, said Nangarhar Provincial Council member Zabihullah Zemarai, adding that the motive was not clear.

It is not the first ISIL kidnapping of civilians in the district. About two months ago, it abducted 14 locals and freed them after 40 days.

Troops killed at least 27 ISIL militants in air and ground operations in Achin District, Nangarhar police spokesman Col. Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News Monday (April 3).
