Afghan troops retake Kohistan District, kill dozens of Taliban

KABUL -- Security forces regained control of Kohistan District, Faryab Province, inflicting heavy casualties on the Taliban, TOLO News reported Tuesday (July 25).

Taliban militants had seized Kohistan over the weekend, but troops Tuesday launched a counter-offensive that killed more than 20 militants, said the Afghan National Army (ANA).

Meanwhile, air strikes in Kohistan and two other Faryab Province districts killed 143 Taliban militants Monday (July 24), according to the Afghanistan Times.

In Baghlan-e-Markazi District, Baghlan Province, troops cleared more than 20 villages and killed at least 50 Taliban insurgents, said local officials Wednesday (July 26), according to TOLO News.
