Afghan forces take back Taywara District, kill 45 militants in Nuristan

KABUL -- Afghan troops regained Taywara District, Ghor Province, Thursday (July 27), four days after the Taliban seized it, local officials told TOLO News.

During their short control of Taywara, the Taliban reportedly set fire to the district hospital and killed dozens of doctors and patients.

In Nuristan Province, troops killed 45 militants, including some foreign fighters, after the militants attacked the Want Wegal District centre Wednesday (July 26), according to Pajhwok Afghan News, which quoted district chief Rahmatullah Rahmati.

Two Afghan troops were killed in five hours of combat, said Rahmati.

Afghan air strikes in Achin District, Nangarhar Province, killed eight "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) members, officials said Wednesday, according to Khaama Press.

In Seyagerd District, Parwan Province, troops and the Taliban have been fighting since the Taliban attacked various outposts Thursday, according to TOLO News. It did not report casualties for either side.
