Taliban, ISIS leaders among 9 militants killed in 3 provinces

JALALABAD -- Two Taliban commanders and an "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) leader were killed in combat in Nangarhar, Jawzjan and Kunar provinces, media reported.

One Taliban commander, Nematullah (aka Zarqawi), was killed with a second militant in a battle with troops in Khogyani District, Nangarhar Province, Monday (August 7), Khaama Press reported, quoting the Nangarhar government.

Troops killed the Taliban shadow governor of Faizabad District, Jawzjan Province, and four other militants in combat in the district, TOLO News reported, quoting Jawzjan Governor Sayra Shekib Sadat Monday (August 7). The battle began Sunday (August 6) and stretched into Monday.

Two ISIS militants, including a senior leader who ran prisons, were killed in an air strike in Chapa Dara District, Kunar Province, said the Afghan National Army, Khaama Press reported Monday.
