Afghan violence kills 124

KABUL -- At least 115 militants and three Afghan security personnel were among 124 people killed recently in Afghanistan.

A recent Taliban attack on a military base in Maiwand District, Kandahar Province, killed three soldiers and at least 20 militants, Khaama Press reported October 7, quoting the Kandahar government press office.

Afghan air strikes in Nawa District, Helmand Province, recently killed at least 88 Taliban, Maiwand Corps spokesman Capt. Ahmad Shakil told Pajhwok Afghan News October 6.

Troops killed seven insurgents in Zebak District, Badakhshan Province, in an October 6-7 battle, provincial governor's spokesman Ahmad Navid Fortan told Pajhwok Afghan News October 6.

Separately, the Taliban October 5 in Darzab District, Jawzjan Province, killed six civilians, accusing them of serving as Afghan Local Police, provincial police chief Rahmatullah Turkistani said, according to Pajhwok Afghan News.
