KABUL -- Members of parliament praised the country's security forces for their performance during Ashura, the Afghanistan Times reported Monday (October 2).
"Thank you to the Afghan security forces and united Afghan nation for paving the way for a peaceful observance of Ashura nationwide," said Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, speaker of the Wolesi Jirga (lower chamber of parliament).
Afghan troops provided a peaceful environment for Ashura, even though some Afghans had misgivings beforehand, he said.
