KABUL -- Afghan security forces thwarted a potential bomb attack targeting worshippers at a shrine in Kabul, Khaama Press reported Wednesday (November 14), citing Afghan officials.

Security forces discovered an improvised explosive device (IED) hidden in a shrine in the Shudai Saleehin neighbourhood of the capital's first police district, said officials from the Criminal Investigation Department.

The militants had placed the bomb and were planning to remotely detonate it amid worshippers, the officials said.

The explosives were discovered based on a tip-off, said the officials.

There was no immediate comment from any militant group.
