Afghan forces kill at least 51 Taliban militants in Kunduz and Faryab

MAZAR-E-SHARIF -- Afghan forces killed at least 51 Taliban militants in two separate operations in Kunduz and Faryab provinces, the 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan National Army said Friday (September 28).

In the past 72 hours, special forces conducted an operation in Chahar Dara District, Kunduz, killing at least 31 Taliban militants -- including a militant from Tajikistan -- and wounding 17 other insurgents, said the Friday statement.

Among those killed in the operation was the Taliban deputy shadow governor for Aliabad District, identified as Qari Nematullah, read the statement.

Troops also seized 48 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during the operation.

Separately, an Afghan air strike hit a Taliban hideout in Qaisar District of Faryab Thursday (September 27), killing at least 20 Taliban militants, the 209th Shaheen Corps said in a Friday statement.

Three Taliban commanders were among those killed in the strike.
