Afghan police kill Taliban shadow district governor in Faryab

KABUL -- Afghan police killed the Taliban's shadow governor for Garziwan District, Faryab Province, during a battle in the district, the Interior Ministry said in a statement Wednesday (December 26).

Mawlawi Hamidullah was killed in fighting that erupted between the Taliban militants and Afghan forces in the Sarchakan area, Garziwan District, said the statement.

Three other Taliban fighters were killed in the clash, said the statement, without providing details on the timing.

Separately, at least eight Taliban militants were killed during a clash in Almar District, Faryab Province, added the same statement.

Four police officers were killed during the fighting.
