HERAT -- Afghan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF) killed at least 39 Taliban militants and wounded 28 others during an on-going operation in Ab Kamari District, Badghis Province, the 207th Zafar Corps of the Afghan National Army said in a statement Wednesday (January 16).
The militants fought under the command of the Taliban shadow governor for Ab Kamari District, said the statement, without providing details on the timing or whether the shadow governor was among those killed.
Local uprising forces and the Afghan Air Force supported the security forces in the operation, it added.
Troops destroyed 36 motorbikes and 30 different types of weapons belonging to the militants.
The Taliban did not immediately comment.
