The raid took place in Chamtali village of Surkh Rod District, the statement said.

A key Taliban member identified as Mullah Turab was among those arrested, according to the statement.

"Mullah Turab was the main planner and organiser of terrorist and destructive activities, armed assault and explosions in Surkhrod District and as well as in different parts of Nangarhar Province," it said.

Separately, the GCPSU defused two suicide vests in Pul-e-Alam, Logar Province, the same statement said.
