KABUL -- Efforts for achieving peace in Afghanistan will go ahead despite a "cowardly act of terror" that killed at least three US troops near Bagram Air Base, Parwan Province, Monday (April 8), US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo vowed.

"My heartfelt prayers to the families of the Americans killed near Bagram. I condemn this disgusting terrorist act," Pompeo said in a tweet Monday.

"US service members have sacrificed their lives in Afghanistan to keep us safe and no cowardly act of terror will impede our efforts to achieve peace," he said.

The Taliban in a statement on Monday claimed responsibility for the roadside bombing.

The bomb wounded three US troops and an Afghan contractor, according to the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission.
