KABUL -- President Ashraf Ghani Sunday (May 5) called on the Taliban to respect the demands for peace made by Afghans gathered at last week's consultative Loya Jirga in Kabul.
The Taliban should recall that Ramadan is a month of peace and reconciliation, said Ghani in a video message posted on Facebook.
"I once again call on the Taliban to pay respect to this month and to the demands of the public for peace and reconciliation reflected in the consultative Loya Jirga," he said.
More than 3,000 delegates from across the country gathered April 29-May 3 in Kabul and urged the Taliban to declare a cease-fire and lay down their arms.
The Taliban have vowed that any decisions or resolutions made at the Loya Jirga will never be "acceptable" to them.
