KABUL -- Afghan commandos recaptured Bulcheragh District in Faryab Province from Taliban militants Tuesday (June 25), the Defence Ministry said in a statement.
The district had been under Taliban control for the past year, the ministry said Tuesday.
The militants had taken some residents of Bulcheragh hostage, closed schools and extorted money from locals, it added.
Bulcheragh is the third district that Afghan forces have reclaimed from the Taliban in less than a month. Afghan troops took control of Deh Yak and Khwaja Omar districts in Ghazni Province from the insurgents, the Defence Ministry said June 7.
