FARAH -- Afghan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF) arrested five Taliban militants and seized 400kg of opium in an operation in Farah Province, the Interior Ministry said in a statement Sunday (August 18).

The arrest, backed by air support, took place in Saaj village, Pusht Rod District, said the statement, without providing details on the timing.

The Afghan government and the international community have long accused the Taliban of being involved in drug trafficking as a means to fund their war.

The Taliban did not immediately comment on the arrest.
