KABUL -- Twenty-nine Taliban militants surrendered in Farah and Uruzgan provinces and joined the Afghan-owned, Afghan-led peace process, the Afghanistan Times reported Tuesday (July 4), quoting the Ministry of Interior.
Eighteen surrendered in Uruzgan; 11 gave up in Farah.
Meanwhile, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) arrested in Kabul a Taliban commander who was plotting to carry out attacks during Eid in the capital, TOLO News reported, quoting a Tuesday (July 4) statement by the NDS.
The NDS did not disclose when the commander, Abdul Rahim, was arrested. He led at least 20 insurgents, according to the NDS.
