Afghan forces kill 2 Taliban leaders in Balkh Province

MAZAR-E-SHARIF -- Afghan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF) killed two prominent Taliban leaders in Balkh Province in separate operations, the 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan National Army said Monday (August 26).

Afghan forces conducted an operation on Monday in Sholgara District, killing Mawlawi Abdul Ahad, the Taliban's shadow governor for Chaharkent District, along with his 15 fighters, the army said in a statement.

In a second operation on Monday, an Afghan air strike killed Mawlawi Shireen, the Taliban's top military commander for Sholgara District, the army said.

The air strike destroyed a militant hideout and a vehicle, it added.

The Taliban did not immediately comment.
