HELMAND -- Afghan special forces killed at least six members of al-Qaeda terrorist group and 17 Taliban fighters in an operation in Helmand Province, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said in a statement Tuesday (October 1).
Al-Qaeda's leader for Helmand Province, identified as Faizani, was among those killed, said the statement, without providing details on the timing of the operation.
The Taliban military commander for Nawzad District was also killed, it added.
The Taliban did not immediately comment.
