Afghan forces kill 105 militants

KABUL -- At least 105 militants, including members of the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), and four security personnel were killed in recent violence across Afghanistan.

Troops killed at least 78 militants in a 24-hour span nationwide, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said July 23, according to the Afghanistan Times. Four soldiers also were killed, the MoD said.

Security forces killed at least 22 ISIL members in Achin and Nazian districts, Nangarhar Province, provincial governor's spokesman Ataullah Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News July 25. Seventeen of them were killed in Achin District July 24 and five in Nazian District, he said, without giving the date of the Nazian battle.

The five deaths in Nazian District might have been included in the 78 deaths reported by the Afghanistan Times.

A July 24 clash with police in Sapera District, Khost Province, killed one commander of the terrorist Haqqani Network and led to another commander's capture, provincial police chief Faizullah Ghairat said, according to TOLO News.

Fighting during Taliban leader Mullah Shakoor's recent funeral in Sayed Khel District, Parwan Province, took at least nine lives, the Afghanistan Times reported July 24.

Shakoor was the shadow deputy governor of Parwan Province but was killed by a land mine last week.

Afghan forces carrying out a recent joint operation captured three key Taliban commanders in Dara-e-Sof District, Samangan Province, the Ministry of Interior said July 23, according to Khaama Press.
