Afghan forces continue Kunduz clearance operation

KUNDUZ -- Afghan security forces killed and wounded about 200 Taliban in recent fighting in Kunduz city, according to security officials. Fighting has lasted four days.

The troops killed a Taliban shadow provincial governor, officials said.

They have cleared many areas of the city, local officials said, according to an October 7 TOLO News report. About 20 troops were killed or wounded, the news agency said.

Troops have driven militants out of the southern half of town, provincial police chief Gen. Qasim Jungalbagh said October 6, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
