64 militants killed in Afghanistan

KABUL -- Security forces killed at least 64 militants during counter-insurgency operations in Afghanistan over the past few days.

Troops carrying out an overnight operation in Gereshk District, Helmand Province, killed four Taliban militants Saturday (April 29), provincial governor's spokesman Ataullah Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Foreign troops Sunday (April 30) in the same district killed seven more Taliban, said the provincial police, according to Pajhwok Afghan News.

Fifty-three more militants associated with the Haqqani Network and the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) were killed in air strikes in five provinces, said the Ministry of Defence (MoD), Khaama Press reported Sunday.
