KABUL -- Afghan operatives connected to the Interior Ministry arrested Abdul Jalil Haqqani, a deputy finance minister in the 1996-2001 Taliban regime, in Kandahar Province, Interior Ministry said in a statement Monday (December 10).
Haqqani, who was on the United Nations' sanction list, was arrested Monday morning as he attempted to cross the Pakistani-Afghan border with a fake passport, said the statement.
Police used the Afghan biometric system to confirm Haqqani's identity, according to the statement.
The Taliban did not immediately comment.
