Afghan militants kidnap 50 passengers, kill 10 soldiers

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan -- The Afghan Taliban, continuing a recent trend, kidnapped 50 bus passengers in Kunduz Province June 8, media reported. They also killed at least 10 Afghan troops in Uruzgan Province.

The Taliban reportedly kidnapped the passengers near Kunduz city, according to TOLO News, citing provincial council officials. The bus was travelling from Badakhshan Province to Kabul.

Afghan troops rescued seven passengers, Kunduz Governor Asadullah Amarkhil said, according to Pajhwok Afghan News.

Last week, the Taliban abducted about 200 bus and van passengers on the Kunduz-to-Baghlan highway, killing a dozen of them and releasing the majority. Eight passengers are still missing.

A recent Taliban attack on a check-post in Deh Rahwood District, Uruzgan Province, killed at least 10 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers, Khaama Press reported June 7, quoting a local security official on the condition of anonymity.
