24 killed in separate incidents in Afghanistan

KABUL -- At least 24 people were killed in recent fighting in Afghanistan.

Militants in Kunduz Province May 31 killed at least 13 hostages in a mass kidnapping of bus passengers reported by Central Asia Online May 31.

Earlier coverage reported that the terrorists had kidnapped about 200 passengers before releasing most of them.

The Taliban took responsibility for the massacre.

Separately, terrorists June 1 attacked the Appeal Court in Ghazni city, Ghazni Province, killing at least four civilians and a police officer, TOLO News reported, quoting provincial police chief Aminullah Amarkhil. All four terrorists were killed.

Security forces prevented the terrorists -- all would-be suicide bombers -- from entering the court, Aminullah said.

In Khogyani District, Nangarhar Province, a local police commander was killed when a bomb placed in his vehicle exploded June 1, Nangarhar Province governor's spokesman Ataullah Khogyani said, according to TOLO News.

In Balkh Province on the same day, Sholgara District police chief Bismillah was killed in a roadside bombing, provincial police spokesman Col. Sher Jan Durrani said, according to Pajhwok Afghan News.
