Afghan forces kill 123 ISIL militants; Ghazni women's leader escapes assassination

JALALABAD -- Security forces have killed at least 123 members of the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), including a key commander, in Achin and Kot districts, Nangarhar Province, media reported.

Troops killed at least 122 ISIL members in Achin District in a 24-hour span, according to Nangarhar police, Khaama Press reported July 26.

Separately, special forces July 25 in Kot District killed the ISIL commander for that district, provincial governor's spokesperson Ataullah Khogyani said, according to TOLO News.

Meanwhile, Shukuria Wali, the women's affairs director for Ghazni Province, escaped assassination by motorcycle-riding gunmen July 26 in Ghazni city, provincial police chief Aminullah Amarkhil told Pajhwok Afghan News.

A revenue officer riding in her car was killed, though, Amarkhil said.
