Afghan roadside bombs kill 9

KABUL -- Two roadside bombs in Kandahar and Herat provinces recently killed at least nine Afghans, including two police officers, officials said.

A roadside bomb in Maiwand District, Kandahar Province, killed at least four civilians August 12, provincial governor's spokesman Samim Khpalwak told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The bomb was meant for security forces but killed civilians instead, he said.

One day earlier in Shindand District, Herat Province, five people, including two police officers, were killed in a roadside bombing, provincial governor's spokesman Jilani Farhad said, according to the Afghanistan Times.
