Staff Report

KABUL -- At least 82 militants, 20 Afghan troops and 5 civilians were killed recently in Afghanistan.

At least 20 Afghan National Army (ANA) troops were killed in a 24-hour span in multiple provinces, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said, according to an August 17 Khaama Press report.

The MoD one day earlier reported that at least 82 Taliban were killed in multiple provinces, according to the Afghanistan Times.

Seven troops were killed, the MoD said, according to the Afghanistan Times. Those seven might have been part of the 20 troops reported killed in the Khaama Press story.

Militants recently killed four abducted civilians in Helmand Province, TOLO News reported August 17. The hostages included two teenagers.

The four were kidnapped on the Lashkargah-to-Gereshk highway a week ago, provincial governor Hayatullah Hayat said. Authorities recently found their bodies in Helmand.

A militant shelling in Lashkargah August 16 killed one civilian, officials said.
