Afghan forces kill 22 Taliban, arrest 2 suspected drug smugglers

KUNDUZ -- Afghan troops recently killed at least 22 militants and detained two suspected drug traffickers nationwide.

Troops recently killed at least three militants in Baraki Barak District, Logar Province, Khaama Press reported August 17.

Other troops recently repulsed a Taliban attack on Khanabad and Chahar Dara districts, Kunduz Province, killing at least 19 Taliban, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said August 17, according to TOLO News. The militants attacked starting August 16, according to the MoI.

Heavy fighting continues in Khanabad District, district governor Hayatullah Amiri said, according to TOLO News.

Separately, police recently apprehended two suspected drug smugglers with more than 800kg of opium in Bamiyan Province, the MoI said separately August 17, according to Pajhwok Afghan News.
