Staff Report

KABUL -- A group of 109 female army cadets returned home August 28 after completing three months of training in Turkey, officials told Khaama Press.

The cadets will begin serving in various posts, Deputy Defence Minister Gen. Habib ur Rehman Afzal said.

About 1,500 women serve with the Defence Ministry presently, Afzal said, adding that the ministry has instituted a 10% quota in the army for women.

In recent years, more than 500 Afghan female police cadets have trained in Turkey, officials say. They all returned to serve with the Interior Ministry.
